Obey God Even When It Doesn’t Make Sense

I want to encourage you to read John 2 this morning. Take your time and don’t rush through the many truths of God’s Word. Here in John 2 we find Jesus and his mother attending a wedding when the wine ran out. This is not a good thing! Can you see the wedding planner rushing around trying to figure out what to do. You have to remember in those days there were no local curb stores where you could jump in your car and be right back. Mary felt so bad for wedding party and the wedding planner. John 2:3 Mary says to Jesus, “They have no wine.” In other words, “Jesus do something.” Even tho Jesus hasn’t started his public ministry yet, Mary knew who Jesus was! Boldly and without hesitation, Mary directed the servants to listen to Jesus and do whatever He tells you to do! Even if it doesn’t make sense! Do it anyway.

Jesus instructed them to gather jars together and fill them with water. Keep in mind, there was no running water. So you had to go to a water source or a well and bring the water back to the ceremony. Not an easy task. But they did exactly what Jesus asked them to do! When they got everything in place Jesus asked them in verse 8, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” How crazy was that? I know the servants had to be thinking, this guy is going to get us fired. Yet one of the amazing parts of the story is that they obeyed!

Here is the question this morning. What’s He saying to you? Are you willing to obey Him even when it doesn’t make sense? If you know that God loves you, you should never question His direction from Him. It will always be right and best. Lord, help us to hear Your voice and obey it even when I don’t know the outcome.
