Most of us try to resist temptation, and that is why we lose over and over again. When we try to resist in the flesh, we will loss because the flesh wants to give in! The flesh is what got you in the situation with this temptation in the first place. In Matthew 26:41 Jesus said to his disciples, “Watch and pray so that you don’t fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” How true is that? Paul write in Galatians 5:16-17, “Live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.” It’s a battle at times to say the least.
Instead of trying to resist temptation, I want to encourage you to turn and run away! 2 Timothy 2:22 says, “Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” How can you break the pull of temptation if you don’t run from it? Peter Lord uses a great example that I want to share with you today. Temptation is like a magnet field. If a piece of iron is brought inside the magnetic field, the iron will be pulled and attracted to the magnet. But if you keep the iron outside the magnetic field, the iron will not be pulled in because it is outside the field’s sphere of influence. Forbidden fruit also has a magnetic field. When you stay away from the object of temptation, you are outside the sphere of influence and you will not feel the magnetic pull towards it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man, and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what we are able, but with the temptation, He will provide the way of escape.” God will always make a way out of temptation, but we must look for it! Recognize how Satan tripped you up last time. He loves to use the same old tricks over and over again. Beware of your surroundings and know that temptation is coming! When it comes, look for the way to escape. Love you guys! God bless.
