Rest In Peace Bill Durham

Bill Durham is now in perfect peace with the Father! He passed away last night around 9:45 pm. I can here him singing in full voice and celebrating with Mema, Danny, Debbie, Mr. Youngblood, and Jim Lot! What a reunion! Praise God! He is praising the Lord and the angels in heaven are saying, “Man, this new guy can really sing!” No more pain, no more sorrow, and no more suffering. Yes, he is walking the streets of gold in full stride! If you know Bill Durham, you know what I am talking about. Mema had to jog just to stay 10 feet behind him.

What can you say about a man who meant so much to so many people? Yes, he was know for his golden voice but, he also had a golden heart! He cared for people, and he loved getting together and laughing, joking, and carry on with his buddies. He lit of the room with joy and passion. He has changed my life forever. I will never forget the day I asked him for Laura’s hand in marriage. I was a nervous wreck! I sat there for nearly 30 minutes trying to get up the nerve to ask him. When I finally did, he asked me, “Do you love her?” I looked him back in the eyes and said, “More than anything.” Then he said to me, “Take care of my baby girl, I give you my blessing.” I will never forget his voice, his face, and his passion for life.

What this man meant to me can not be held in this blog. But I wanted to honor him and his life this morning. He was a giant in his faith, a loving husband, loving dad, and a friend to everybody he met. He never knew a stranger. It’s so hard to let a loved one go, but I can see his smile, I can sense his joy, and I know he is in the arms of Jesus. I can hear the Lord saying to him, “Bill Durham, well done! Welcome home!” Because of that, I will rejoice and give thanks for the opportunity to be Bill Durham son-in-law. What an honor.

Pa, no more need to sing Sweet Beulah Land! You are home. Enjoy your big breakfast this morning! We will miss you, but we will see you again some day. By the way, thanks for the great example you gave me on how to live life to the fullest! Give Mema a kiss for me. Love you.

Johnny Boyd likely heard he was coming and was standing near the gate to greet him. Dad probably asked when what took you so long!? He sang at my wedding and at my dad’s funeral. My mom and dad, and our whole family thought very highly of him and Ms. Nonnie. He will surely be missed but isnt it great to say “See ya later” rather than goodbye. Much love and prayers for the family in the coming weeks. Ive been there and its not a fun road to walk.

Laura and Dennis I feel your loss. Mr Bill was a wonderful person and great example. Thought of him yesterday which is ironic because I wasn’t even aware he was sick. He taught me a lot and I truly loved him and Ms Nonie. What great examples of Christ’s love. Praying for your family
