Replace Fear with Faith

One of the greatest examples in God’s Word of how to replace fear with faith comes from 1 Samuel 17. We all know the story of David and Goliath. As a young boy, I remember sitting on the edge of the bed imagining what it would be like to be in David’s shoes! David expected victory, but most everybody else thought Goliath was to big to defeat. David thought he was to big to miss!

David and his entire army was paralyzed and found themselves in a difficult place. They were fearful because they followed 4 destructive steps. 1. Focused only on the problem. (1 Samuel 17:4-10) 2. Expected to be defeated. (1Samuel 17:11) 3. Attitude of self protection. (1Samuel 17:23-24) 4. Ran from the problem. (1 Samuel 17:24) Because of these 4 flaws, they were stalled out in life and was going no where fast.

But David gives us a different perspective! He was in the same situation as David , but he made 5 positive choices to live in victory. 1. Focus on God. (1 Samuel 17:26) 2. Anticipated God’s help. (1 Samuel 17:45-47) 3. Insisted on being involved. (1 Samuel 17:28-32) 4. Took time to prepare. (1 Samuel 17:38-40) 5. Had an impact on everybody around him. (1 Samuel 17:51-52)

If you take the first letter of every highlighted word in the second paragraph, and put them all together, you would have the word fear. The same is true of the third paragraph. If you would do the same thing, David’s word would be faith. Are you living in fear or faith this morning? It’s a choice we have to choose every day! Know this, what ever you are going through, God is bigger! Whatever your weakness is, God is stronger. Raise your expectations of what God can do. Replace fear with faith this morning! Thank you Lord! Come on, let’s live a life of faith and know that He is with us. We have His promise that He will never leave us or forsake us. Let’s walk in victory today! Love ya.

My Father Has Big Guns

Good morning! My father is and always will be my hero! Growing up, he was always a constant in my life. He never missed a game and rarely ever missed a practice. Not only was he a great dad to me, he always took up time with my buddies that didn’t have a dad. Growing up, we had a set of concrete weights with a medal bar. Me and my brother would mess around with them in the yard. I remember load up the bar with 110 lbs. and trying to dead lift it. Man, we were getting it done! It was all I could do to pull that weight to my waist. Then my dad showed up and said, “I can pick that up with one hand over my head.” There was no way! So, he bent over and grabbed that long bar with 110 lbs of concrete weight. Then he let out a loud grunt and threw that weight over his head! At that point in my life, I pictured him as Super Man. You see, my dad, had the guns!💪 As a child, when I was with my dad, I feared nothing. I knew he was watching over me and I knew he would protect me no matter what. I was in the presence of Super Man.

While we are living life in a world of uncertainty, we tend to walk in fear. Businesses are closing their doors, people are losing their jobs, and you are wondering will I get the virus. Some many negative thoughts are running through own minds. The author of Psalm 91 speaks of a place of security that I want to share with you this morning. Psalm 91:1-4 says, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say if the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”

I want to encourage you today to sit down in the presence of the Mighty God, and hand Him your worries and fears. Say this; “God you are my refuge, I trust in you and I’m safe. Know this, he recuse us from hidden traps, shields us from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you! Under them you are perfectly safe. Our Heavenly Father has the “Big Guns.” Fear Nothing while you are walking in the presence of God. Stay positive and turn your attention to the God of the universe! God bless!

Reassuring Hope

We live in a world of uncertainty! Stocks can be soaring one day, and drop 2000 points the next day. Retirement was just around the corner but now, it might be pushed out a couple of years. You can be completely healthy today and fighting for your life next year. That job you had for over 20 years just gave you the pink slip! How in the world will you put food on your table and pay your bills? That person you leaned on for so many years, just past away! In this world of uncertainty, there is something that never changes. Gods love for us and His Word will never fade, never fail us, and never change! In hard times, and in times of uncertainty turn to the Rock of my salvation.

I want to give you some reassuring hope this morning found in God’s love letter to us. Psalm 27:1-3 tells us this, “The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is my stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid. When evil men advance me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Thought an army besieged me, my heart will not fear; though war breaks out against me, even then will I be confident.” When fear overcomes you, hold on to Isaiah 43:1-3 which says, “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

Hold on to Psalm 121:1-8! I lift up my eyes to the hills-where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip-he who watches over you will never slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will never slumber or sleep. The Lord watches over you-he Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from harm-he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

God has a plan. He is never surprised! God didn’t save Daniel from the lion’s den, but He saved him in the lion’s den. He doesn’t get us out, he gets us through! Sometimes we just need to turn off the TV; and open up God’s Word! He cares about you, and He loves you! Put your trust in the hands of the loving Father! Choose hope and not fear today! God bless!

Do Not Fear

God has placed some scripture in front of me this morning and I want to share that with you! As you read these scriptures, please ask the Lord to give you understanding and discernment. Let God’s Word go deep, and let it take root in your life. God has a robe of peace that He wants to put around you this morning.

Lamentations 3:55-57 says this, “I call on your name, O Lord, from the depths of the pit. You heard my plea: “Do not close your ears to my cry for relief.” You came near when I called you, and you said, “Do not fear.” Psalm 42:11 tells us this, “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed with me? Put your Hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” Psalm 91:2 says, “I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Thank you Lord for your Word.

There is so much going on in our world today. So many are turning their ears to the news, and all the ruckus that is going on all around us, when we should be turning our attention to the Lord! I want to put this in the most simplistic words. Do not fear, place your trust in the One who owns it all! He is my refuge, my high tower, and my fortress. Take you eyes off fear, uncertainty, and place them on the Savior of the world. Lord, cover me and your Church with your robe of peace and hope today. I pray that fear will not overcome us. My trust is in you Lord. Amen! It’s Tuesday, and it time to get it going. God bless.

Good morning my friend! Proverbs 2:1-5 says this, “My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ears to wisdom and applying your heart for understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for silver and search it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” God’s Word is laying down a solid foundation for us and is giving us spiritual food to feast on this morning! Notice the word if is mentioned 3 times in this scripture, in others words, we have a choice to obey God’s Word, or not.

There are 4 things we need this morning to understand the fear of the Lord, and to walk in wisdom. First, we need to be teachable. We need to learn how listen a whole a lot better, and make it a priority to learn Truth. Secondly, we need to be willing to be obedient to want the Lord teaches us! We need to know how to apply the Truth to every day life. Thirdly, we need to be dependent on prayer! When will we learn to truly trust Him, and to lean on our Heavenly Father? If it is on your heart, or weighting you down, talking it out with Him. Fourth thing we need to understand the fear of the Lord, we need perseverance. We need to keep on, keeping on! There will be trails along the way, and there will be obstacles that will slow us down. But keep your eyes on the prize of knowing Christ. Keep pushing forward and don’t look back!

Be teachable, obedient, dependent on prayer, and persevere in you walk with Christ. Then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. Follow the map and you will find the treasure!💥

Possum In The Wood Shed

Many years ago, I was woke up in the middle of the night by my dog Bucky! It was about 3:00 AM. I let him bark for a little while because I really didn’t want to get out of the bed and go outside! A few minutes went by and he was still barking. By now my wife is up and was worried about her dog. I grabbed the flashlight, some shoes, and turned on all the outside lights.

I walked outside and called Bucky by name, but he didn’t stop barking. That was very unusual. He was in our wood shed going crazy. I really couldn’t see what was going on but by this time the barking turned into an all out battle! My heart begin to race and my wife was standing on the porch yelling for me to get the gun! We are in downtown Leesburg, Georgia in the middle of the night. I can’t shoot a gun off, plus I can’t see a thing.

Finally from the porch, my wife was able to call Bucky away from the woodshed. He came running and he was a mess. Everything got very quiet! What in the world could it be? With my heart racing, I flashed my light in the wood shed and I begin to look around from a distance. By this time, I had a shovel in hand ready to do battle.

As I scanned the ground in the wood shed, I started to work my way up to the top of the wood pile. There he was, standing at the top of the wood pile! With his red eyes and his hair stand on the ends, he showed me all of his teeth like he was smiling at me! I was awake now! Fear hit me in the face. I wasn’t going in a wood shed in the middle of the night with a possum that is smiling at me! No way.

I sent Bucky back in that wood shed to flush that possum out! All heck just broke loose and there was hissing, barking, and all kinds of chaos going on. Then it got very quiet! The next thing I knew, that possum jumped from the woodshed to my fence and begin to walk the fence. He was coming my way! This was chance to overcome my fear and knock this thing out and get back to bed. As this evil possum walked the fence, I took that shovel like a baseball and swung as hard as possible! I whiffed! I missed him. He dunked his head right under my shovel! I had to regroup and get this done. So I swung as hard as I could and the possum fell to the ground.

Kind of violent but I overcame my fear with a good dog and a hard shovel. What are your fears? Some times the fear of failure will paralyze you. Fear of rejection, death, or even the fear of living out your faith can cause you to stumble. Satan uses fear to beat you up and to wear you out. So many Christians are living defeated lives because of fear! They know that they are saved but there is no excitement, no joy, no purpose, and no power.

This is not the life God has designed for His children! If you are in Christ, you are an overcomer. You have the Holy Spirit living in you and you have unlimited power through Jesus Christ! God has done his part. He has called you, cleansed you, forgiven you, and He has empowered you! He has given us everything we need to overcome our fears.

It’s time to face your fears! 1 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love and of self discipline.” Knock the smile off that devil face! You are an overcomer in Jesus!

Have a blessed week!
