Who Is Your Defense Attorney?

Justification. Now there is a good churchy word that we hear all the time, but not fully understand what it means. Justification is a process by which sinful human beings are made acceptable to a holy God. Romans 5:1 says, “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” I am not a Greek scholar, but I do google things when I have questions about a word! 😁 The Greek verb tense used in this verse means a once and for all transaction. You see, we have been justified, we have been declared not guilty once and for all! The process of declaring us not guilty starts and ends with the Godhead. Romans 6:23 tells us this, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Imagine you are in a court room setting. Satan, our accuser, seeks to prosecute. Without hesitation, he points out to the Judge why we are condemned. But our Advocate, or Lawyer for our defense, pleads our case. The Bible calls Him our paracletos or the “One who is call alongside. He says, “My client is not guilty! Exhibit A is My nailed pierced hands; Exhibit B is My nailed pierced feet; Exhibit C is the wound in My side.” As Satan screams, “I object!” the righteous Judge will respond, “Objection overruled.” Why? Because Jesus became the perfect Substitute. He paid the penalty and the one who receives the pardon by faith is fully justified! The verdict? NOT GUILTY! Who is your defense attorney? God bless!
