What Are You Focused On?

We have missed out on so many things since the Corona virus has hit. My beloved father-n-laws big celebration after he passed away, my niece’s wedding, church services, and March Madness. When I say March Madness, many of you know exactly what I am talking about. It is the College Basketball’s road to the National Championship! The top college basketball teams are brought together to decide who is the the number one college team in the country. Yes, there are blowouts and huge wins. There are very close games and huge upsets every year. Small schools playing huge schools. This is big time college basketball at it’s finest.

Many of the games come down to that last shot or that final free throw! Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. Millions of people are watching on TV and thousand of people are in the stands. Everybody is on their feet yelling and screaming at looking straight at you. Fans are waving their hands, jumping up and down, and doing everything possible to distract you. Where is your focus? What are you looking at while you are about to take the biggest shot of your life? Are you looking at the crowd or all the craziness going on around you? No, you are focused on the rim! You are seeing your shot going in. You are so focused on that rim that you don’t even see the crowd, much less hear them. You hit the shot, and your team wins the game. A story book ending!

I want to encourage you this morning to read Psalm 16 this morning. This Psalm is written by David, the little boy who killed Goliath with a sling shot and a rock. Psalm 16:8 says, “I have set the Lord always before me, because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” Talking about pressure of missing a shot! What about David? Forget March Madness. What would have happen if David would have missed that shot. But David stood firm and he didn’t miss! You see, David focus wasn’t on the crowd or the giant, but David focus was on someone bigger than Goliath. That is why David was not afraid of him. The giant was bigger than David, but God was bigger that the giant. David was focused on the Lord.

I don’t know what you are facing today or what you are going through. But I do know this, my God is bigger than any problem you are facing. Take you eyes off the giants that you are facing and turn them to the One who can overcome them! Set the Lord before you and turn your focus to Him. You will not be shaken! Amen.

Psalm 119:1-8

You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God. You’re blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him. That’s right, you don’t go off on your own, you walk straight along the road he set. You, God, prescribed the right way to live, now you expect us to live it. Oh, that my steps might be steady, keeping to the course you set. Then I’d never have any regrets in comparing my life with your counsel. I thank you for speaking straight from the heart, I learn the pattern of your righteous ways. I’m going to do what you tell me to do, don’t ever walk off and leave me.

God’s Word is rich and full of wisdom! I hate to admit it, but I am not good with following instructions. I hate when I buy something, and I have to put it together! Yes, it has instructions, but I feel I can look at it, and figure it out faster than taking the time to read the instructions. For some reason, I always have spare pieces left! Maybe I should start reading the instructions! It may save me a lot of headaches. I want to encourage you to take time the read His instructions, and try doing things His way. It may save you a lot of headaches. Love you guys! God bless.

Psalm 145:17-21

Everything God does is right, the trademark on all his work is love. God is there, listening for all who pray. Call out to Him. He does what is best for those who fear Him. He hears our cry and He feels our hurt. He understands what we are facing. God sticks by all who love Him, but it is all over for those who don’t. My mouth is full with God’s praise. Let everything living bless Him, bless His holy name from now to eternity.

Call out to the God of love and compassion this morning. Tell Him what is going on in your life, and the different struggles that you are facing. He cares and He is faithful. It is time to unload all the baggage of life and surrender it all to the Lord. Stop carrying that heavy load and lay it as His feet. Then praise Him! He desires it! Have a great Saturday.

Psalm 119:9-12

How can a young man live a clean life? That almost seems impossible these days. We live in a world where there is temptation on every corner, and evil lurks in the shadows waiting to pounce on you. But it can be done, but we must pay close attention to the road map of God’s Word! He must be our single pursuit, and don’t miss the road signs the Lord will put in front of you durning the journey. Lock these directions in your heart, and secure them in your vault! Never let them go! His road map will keep us headed in the right direction, and arrive to our final destination safely.

Pick up God’s Word this morning! This is God’s love letter to us. In His Word you can find directions to a life of fulfillment, peace, and great joy, even when you are in the middle of chaos. How can we keep our ways pure? By living according to His Word! This is truth and you can bank on it.
